What Are the Best Tips for Cooking Rump Steak?

It is best to begin the process of cooking rump steak by tenderizing it. Retain as much of the natural juices as possible by sealing the steak and avoiding salt before cooking to capitalize on the meat's natural flavor. Steaks that will be grilled should be brushed with oil first. Individuals who are concerned about overcooking should consider wet cooking methods.

Before cooking a rump steak, it is best to tenderize the meat. This is not as important when it will be prepared through an extended cooking time method, such as in a soup, but it can still be helpful. Instead of using a mallet for tenderizing, the fist is an ideal alternative tool. This will help to enhance and protect the meat's flavor.

The rump is a very flavorful cut of beef. This is one of the aspects of the meat that encourages people to choose it as opposed to another cut. To fully enjoy its flavor, it is important to retain as much of the meat's juices as possible. This can be done by first sealing the steak by frying it on each side for a few minutes in a highly heated pan. Afterward, the steak can be brought to an excellent finish in the broiler.

As the rump is so flavorful, it best to opt against marinating this type of meat. Individuals often add their favorite seasonings before cooking rump steak, but this is a practice that should be avoided as well. Many seasonings contain salt, and salt is believed to encourage the release of the meat's juices.

Before cooking rump steak on the grill, it is a good idea to brush the meat with oil. It is also important to make sure that the grill has reached the desired temperature. To begin cooking the rump steak on a partially warm grill can encourage the meat to get tough. It is also a good idea to become familiar with the appropriate cooking times for the desired temperature for a steak of that thickness in advance. This can help to prevent the consequences that often result from trying to guess.

Make sure to put the steak on a hot grill - putting it on when the grill is still warming may result in steak that is over-dried.

While cooking rump steak can lead to a delicious experience, the task is often underestimated. The rump is a cut of meat that many people overcook, which results in it becoming dry and leathery. Individuals who have limited experience cooking steaks or those who are not confident of their ability to gauge the proper cooking time should cook the meat using wet methods. Braising and stewing, for example, are easier methods for achieving satisfying results.

@umbra21 - That's the only way that I'll have rump steak, as it's not the best cut. I'd rather have another type of cut, but if I have to settle for rump I'll cook it on the grill.

Although I've noticed even rump steak is more expensive than it used to be.

@MrsPramm - One of the reasons you might not like the marinades at the supermarket is that they usually add them to cuts of meat that are close to going off, in order to disguise the flavor. So it might be the meat itself that you don't like rather than whatever sauce they are using.

I quite like putting quite a lot of pepper on my steaks, but I think of that as an enhancement rather than a marinade. In my opinion, the most important thing you can do to improve the flavor is to cook it on the barbecue. My mouth is watering even thinking about it.

I don't think that you should use a real marinade, or let the steak soak in anything but I've found that adding a little bit of soy sauce can really enhance the flavor of rump steak. I always just squirt a little bit on as it's cooking.

I never like the marinades they provide in the supermarket but this works really well.
